Trapping Dung Beetles |
![]() Photo: E Woods, Ulverstone
Dung beetle trap. Fresh dung on mesh on container (the dry grass is to stop dung falling through the mesh). The trap in the photo was one of twenty set the previous evening for G. spiniger, and is situated next to grazing cattle for maximum dung attraction. The trap is left on top of the ground as farmers wouldn’t appreciate 20 holes dug into the paddock. Alternatively, fresh dung on top of a fertiliser bag will do (the bag is to stop the beetles from digging down into the soil). |
